Dr. Mike Barnett, Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church, Ocean Springs, Miss. presented Woodbury Mayor Bill Hargis with the key to the city of Ocean Springs at the Aug. 9 Woodbury City Council, meeting.

Woodbury Lutheran Church has continuously sent teams of relief workers to work on rebuilding the city of Ocean Springs after last year’s Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city.

“It was a remarkable effort and they have not forgotten,” Barnett said. “It was like a storm surge, if you will. They just kept on bringing people down.”

First Baptist Church lost over 120 church members in the aftermath of the hurricanes from loss of life and relocation.

“We would not have made it. It would have been a harder road than it was thanks to people like you,” Barnett told the Woodbury city council.
