The
Ambassador Ministries Team is coordinated by Rick Gigante, and a process
team staffed by Vicar Matthew Blackford and Pastor Deane Schuessler. The
team is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for the approximately
100 guest families who visit Woodbury Lutheran each month.
The ministry, which also teams with outreach and worship ministries, includes:
- Neighbor-To-Neighbor — Volunteers bring brochures to homes in pre-selected neighborhoods, inviting people who do not have church homes to visit Woodbury Lutheran. Teams go out around 4 important times in the year: before Christmas, before Easter, and before and after school starts. Teams meet on Saturdays at noon and canvass for one hour. This is a hospitality visit and requires no evangelism skills. Team Coordinator: Vicar Matthew Blackford
- Bread Ministry Teams — Volunteers deliver bread and a brochure to first-time guests’ homes the week of their first visit. Bread Ministry Teams work in pairs (couples and families are encouraged to volunteer) to welcome new guests to our church. Bread deliveries are done on Tuesday evenings from May-September and Saturday mornings from October-April. Requires no evangelism skills; this is a hospitality visit only. Team Coordinator: Shelly Smith
- Second-Time-Visits Team — Team members call on guests by appointment to answer questions, offer prayer, identify needs and encourage feedback. The visits, which last approximately 20 minutes each, are usually made Tuesday evenings during the spring and summer and Saturday mornings during the fall and winter months. Volunteers for this team receive training, should be comfortable making evangelism calls and leading others in prayer. Team Coordinator: Pastor Deane Schuessler/Vince Setten
- Expanded Welcome Center — Coming soon is emphasis on guest relations and a new guest reception area that will offer guests a designated location for a cup of coffee and a chat with current members and/or staff. Team Coordinator: Julie Runge
- Parking Lot Study Group, which is currently developing recommendations for changes to parking and entrances to improve traffic flow and parking availability, make guests and members feel more welcome, and to improve the worship experience. Team Coordinator: Brian Follett
