Elective Modules

The Elective modules cover a variety of different topics and interests. These allow students the opportunity to choose modules in which they have a personal interest or to address a specific area of their life. Each student must complete 2 different electives.

Elective Course Descriptions

*Martin Luther E201 (5 Weeks)

Students will learn about the life and trials of Martin Luther. They will also study the process of how Lutherans came to be.

World Religions E202 (5 Weeks)

Students will learn about five different religions: Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Scientology, Mormonism, Cults and how we respond.

Relief E204 (5 Weeks)

Students and facilitators will look at issues such as divorce, illness and dying. They will explore the question of why these things happen and appropriate responses to grief situations. This is a great class for those who have gone through or who have friends who have gone through the divorce of parents or through other losses.

Finding God in Media E205 (5 Weeks)

Students will examine the influence of media and music on their lives and what God’s response is to contemporary media and music.

*How Woodbury Lutheran Works E206 (5 Weeks)

Students will look at how Woodbury Lutheran and its members serve the Lord. Different Commissions, Committees, Organizations and staff will present how they serve the Lord.

Defending Your Faith E207 (5 Weeks)

Many youth want to know how to witness more effectively and how to answer those tough questions that their friends may ask. This course will address those tough questions.

Tough Questions of Faith E208 (5 Weeks)

Students will have a chance to ask any questions of the Pastoral staff that they may have about faith or the Bible, and together they will search God’s answer on the topic.

*Internet/Video Games and Faith E209 (5 Weeks)

Is it right for Christians to play video games or surf the web? Students will explore how Christians should react and what kind of boundaries we should have.

You Are Made In God’s Image E210 (5 Weeks) (Girls ONLY)

Ladies will explore what it means to be made in God’s image and how we are beautiful, accepted, blessed, and eternal because of Jesus’ love.

*Healthy Friendships E211 (5 Weeks)

What does it mean to be a Godly friend? How can you be a better friend? When is friendship negatively affecting you and when should you call it quits?

Heroes and Role Models E212 (5 Weeks) (Guys ONLY)

Gents will spend time looking at what it means to be a man after God’s heart by studying men of the Bible and spending time celebrating who God has made them to be.

Book Club E217 (Independent Course with a mentor)

With the help of a mentor, student will study one of many selected scripture-based books and be guided through the book’s meaning.

Dinner and 5 Movies E215F (Independent Course with Family)

Participant will pick 5 movies off an approved movie list and — together with their family — will watch the movies and complete a discussion guide for each movie. Once all 5 movies are completed and discussion guide is turned in, participant will receive course credit.

Other Denominations E214 (5 Weeks)

Students will learn about five different Christian denominations: Lutheran, Catholic, Non-Denomination, Baptist and Methodist.
