An Explanation of the Retreat Module
The retreat modules are the field trip portion of our Foundations program. It is during these retreats and conferences that our youth get to know other youth and adults and start to feel a connection to others. Also these are great ways to encounter God in different settings.
Each student must attend the following three:
Life of Christ
When: 1 or 2 times during the year
Grades: 7th-9th
Time: All day Saturday
Estimated Cost: $10
What: This course will study the life of Jesus. This course will
take the shape of a court room with the last hour of the class being
a mock trial. 2nd Article memorized
Alpha Holy Spirit Retreat (3rd Year students only)
When: 2 times a year
Grades: Those in Cornerstone program
Time: Friday-Saturday
Cost: $15
What: The Alpha Holy Spirit weekend is a weekend retreat (Friday
evening & Saturday morning) that is an essential part of the
course. This time is devoted to teaching on the work of the Holy
Spirit in the individual lives of those taking the course. It is
a fun, relaxing time for learning and where relationships are formed
between the kids and between kids and facilitators.
Cornerstone Retreat (3rd Year students only)
When: One option in October
Grades: Those being confirmed that year
Time: All Day Saturday
Estimated Cost: $30
What: This retreat helps those being confirmed prepare for the
Rite of Confirmation and what it means. It is also a good chance
for them to practice serving and building relationships together.
OR
Cornerstone Family Retreat (3rd Year student with a parent)
When: Month of March or April
Grades: Those in the Cornerstone program
Time: All Day Saturday retreat
Estimated Cost: $40
What: For anyone who can’t make it or choose not to go to
the Cornerstone retreat you must attend this one day family retreat.
It will have some of the same elements of the Cornerstone retreat
but with a family emphasis.
Each student must attend 2 other retreats of their choice during the course of the 3 years in the Foundation Program (including, but not exclusively, the following)
WLC Camp
When: first or second weekend in September
Grades: 7th-12th
Time: Friday evening through Sunday morning
Estimated Cost: $50-$60
What: This is our big Kick-off event of the year. We take over Camp
Omega and unveil the new Youth theme. There’s Canoeing, ropes
courses, bonfires, night games, volleyball, basketball, and the oh
so fun Cabin sleeping! For new 7th graders this is a sure fire way
to make friends and learn the ropes!!!
Mark Mattlock “Planet Wisdom” Conference
When: 1st Friday and Saturday of December
Grades: 7th-12th
Time: Friday evening through Saturday evening
Estimated Cost: $40 - $50
What: This conference is filled with incredible music, great laughter,
cutting edge technology, wonderful speakers and many other surprises.
The event is at the Roy Williams Auditorium in St. Paul. It has a great
band, the Skit Guys and none other then Mark Mattlock.
Snow Riot Winter Retreat
When: Usually end of January or February
Grades: 7th-9th
Time: Friday evening through Sunday afternoon
Estimated Cost: $95 - $110
What: Broomball, bumper pool, great food, and night games make this
retreat a lot of fun…it is also a sure way to stretch your faith
and grow in your relationship with Jesus. It is up at Camp Lebanon
which means “meeting place with God” and it is true—many
of our students really meet God out there! The cabins are heated and
the camp food is awesome. Don’t miss this awesome weekend at
Camp Lebanon in Upsala, MN
WLC Youth Ski Trip
When: Sometime in January or February
Grades: 9th-12th
Time: Probably a 2-4 day trip
Estimated Cost: Depends on the trip
What: Almost every year we do a 2-4 day ski trip. We will probably
go to one of 3 places: Lutsen, MN, Some place in Colorado or Montana.
This is a great way to connect with other people who ski and spend
a couple days in the beauty of God’s creation. There is usually
2 days of skiing and spiritual growth opportunities at night as well.
Sonshine Music Festival
When: Usually 2nd week of July
Grades: 8th-12th grade
Time: Wednesday – a Sunday
Estimated Cost: $100 - $130
What: The Sonshine Music Festival is a 3-day music festival with over
100 different national and local bands and/or performers. You can hear
punk, alternative, techno, country, rap, pop, ska, and rock music.
There will be plenty of opportunities to dance, mosh, and crowd serf.
These bands will play on 6 different stages. You have the option of
which bands you would like to see and when. We will be staying in Tent
City which is located at Willmar High School.
Jr. High Lock out
When: Usually March or April
Grades: 7th – 9th grade
Time: Friday night till Saturday Morning
Estimated Cost: $35 - $40
What: This is an all night lock out. That means we participate in activities
such as bowling, swimming, movie or other fun events outside the building.
Activity involves other churches and friends are welcome.
TEC Retreat
When: 4 Times throughout the year
Grade: 9th (if they have room)
Time: Saturday-Monday
Estimated Cost: $40 or less
What: This is a Teens Encounter Christ retreat that happens over a
3 day period. If a student goes to the retreat they will get credit
for one of their electives and also one of their retreats. This is
a very powerful retreat for our students.
