Student Confirmation Journey
Personal faith process for students who are currently in 7th-12th grades, who would like to dive deeper into understanding what they believe and why.
What to Expect
Confirmation at Woodbury Lutheran has been designed to be a personal experience that is driven by a student's desire to grow in their understanding of their baptismal faith. At the end of this journey, students publicly confirm and claim their identity as a disciple of Jesus.
Step 1: As a family discuss whether you believe you are ready (or your student is ready) to begin this journey. Here is a list of faith topics and questions to guide this discussion. The coursework is designed to take at least a year to complete, all families are welcome to take as long as they need.
Step 2: Sign up here to Set up a Launch Meeting and Register for Wednesday night programming (Foundations or Roots). All students participating in the Confirmation Journey need to be faithful, frequent, and engaged members of a Youth small group.
Step 3: Complete the Confirmation Journal, action modules and updates along the way.
The Confirmation Journal is a study guide to work through what we believe and why. The Journal covers an overview of the Bible, what it means to be a Lutheran Christian, Luther's Small Catechism (10 Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, Baptism, Holy Communion and Confession), Faith practices for a Christian's life, and how to write and share your faith story. Here is a sample lesson from the Confirmation Journal. The lessons in the Journal are brief and devotional in nature. There are questions for reflection and response. At the end of each unit your student will complete a "check-in" form to summarize what they learned. This will help us keep track of how they are progressing. Lindsey Schmidt will check in periodically along the way and you're always encouraged to contact her as questions come up.
We encourage families to work on this Journal together.
The action module includes 15 sermon notes and 15 service hours to be completed prior to the Rite of Confirmation.
At the end of the process students will share their faith story with their Wednesday evening small group.
Step 4: Sign up and complete a 30-minute Confirmation Interview by October 1st or February 1st depending which is closer to when you complete your Testimony sharing and check-in sheets.
Step 5: Register for your Confirmation Weekend. All students who have completed their Confirmation Journey journals, check-ins, action module, testimony, and interview are given the opportunity to confirm their faith along with other students during their regular worship time. Confirmation dates: November 4/5th, 2017 and February of 2018.
