Take the Spiritual Gifts Inventory now
In the New Testament there are "gift lists" in which the words "gift" or "gifts" are used:
- Romans 12:3-8
- 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 27-30
- Ephesians 4:7-13
- 1 Peter 4:7-11.
Elsewhere the Bible speaks of talents and skills such as carpentry, music, craftsmanship, etc. Spiritual gifts, however, are the ministries the Spirit has gifted us to accomplish. They are special abilities given to Christians for the sake of building up the Body of Christ and extending His mission on earth. (Brief definition or description of each gift)
Not every Christian has every spiritual gift. Most Christians have just a few spiritual gifts, and they may even change over time as we mature and as God leads us into new ministries and tasks. The needs of the church and our own maturity as Christians are strong determinants of our spiritual gifts.
Galatians 5:22-23 gives us the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The Spirit grows all nine of these fruit in every Christian. These fruit are the attitudes with which we use our gifts. Think of the gifts as activities and the fruit as attitudes.
Spiritual gifts are normally divided into four areas: people gifts, speaking gifts, serving gifts, and sign gifts. Gifts in all four areas are listed in the New Testament and still very much operative in the church today. Now let's see which ones are yours.
Please set aside a few minutes to take the inventory. After you submit your answers, your results will be shown to you. Blessings!
"Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us."
Romans 12:6
Our Mission: Equipping
Servant Ministries exists to equip each person in their gifts to serve as Jesus served.
Matthew 20:28: "...just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
- Equipping is the primary purpose of church leaders
Ephesians 4:11-13: "It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up."
- Every member is a part of the royal priesthood.
1 Peter 2:9: "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."
- Each believer is given gifts to serve others.
Romans 12:4-6: "Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts according to the grace given us."
- Each of us was created to serve.
Ephesians 2:10: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
- Each person is called to use their gifts in service to others.
1 Peter 4:10: "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
