Woodbury Lutheran Kindergarten
Five
year olds are delightful little people! At this stage,
children are capable of a higher level of reasoning and
learning. It is our goal that each kindergartner will develop
a life-long love of and excitement for learning during
this important year.
Woodbury Lutheran Kindergarten is an academically excellent program that challenges the kindergarten child within a nurturing, Christian environment. Our kindergarten classes are unique in their small size of 14 students. Small class size allows us the opportunity to address individual needs and learning styles, as well as giving each child the special attention that is so important at this young age.
The kindergarten language / reading curriculum is strong on building phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading comprehension skills. Children’s literature comes alive as the children listen, discuss and journal. Kindergartners are also introduced to the Spanish language through an age appropriate curriculum. In exploring numbers and mathematical concepts, our kindergartners learn that math is fun and useful in real life. Our mathematics curriculum is hands-on; math concepts are learned and activities are incorporated throughout each day. The children explore, discover, and experiment with science, nature, and their senses. They also express their creativity in working with a variety of arts and crafts. Faith development through our Bible based curriculum is central to each child’s experience at Woodbury Lutheran Kindergarten. Through Old and New Testament stories, the kindergartners learn Christian character traits and also memorize scripture through song and sign language. Faith is woven throughout our class day. The children learn they are loved unconditionally, as very special, redeemed children of God. Our special “Picture Person” visits the classroom each month to share a master artist’s print, teach about the artist, and encourage conversation among the students about the work of art. At special times during the school year, the students perform musical programs for parents, siblings, friends, and family.
Busing is provided to and from school for those children residing in South Washington County School District #833.
