40 Days with Jesus

What is 40 Days with Jesus?

Do you wish there were a reset button for 2020? As we look at the cultural landscape around us, we can see that it’s more important than ever to lean into Jesus and the life He has for us. We may not be able to start the year over, but together as a church, we can make this Fall a time to spiritually reset and have a fresh start!

From September 13th through October 22nd we invite you to unite with us for 40 Days with Jesus, a time to lean into spiritual health and wellness, develop our prayer life and try fasting through a variety of bite-size ways. We invite you to look at your life and see if there is something that calls for your attention; to fill you up or calm you down. Perhaps it’s time on your phone, social media, alcohol, caffeine, food, video games or even complaining…What would happen if you fasted from one of these things to focus on Jesus and fill the space with prayer? What might God want to do in your life, families and friendships?

How can I join 40 Days with  Jesus?

You can join anytime. We will have daily resources available in 40 Days playlist on our YouTube channel. Just watch the video, reflect and take time just to be with Jesus and pray. Check back each week for the next week of videos from a cross section of our church family.

You're also invited to set your alarm for 7:07am and/or 7:07pm, to stop and pray. Matthew 7:7 calls out to us to keep on asking, knocking, seeking. You may remember this from last winter. We're hitting refresh!

Join us at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights for our weekly live conversation about 40 Days with Jesus. We're calling it the Upper Zoom. We'll have testimonies from our church family, share a few tips or ideas to continue taking steps to lean into the journey and allow time for you to ask questions. We'll also have some time for prayer.

Ideas for Families

~Learn about fasting and prayer as a family. Pray about and talk about how you could engage in this as a family. Invite kids to share their ideas.
~Eat dinner together at home. Fast from take-out food.
~Share highs and lows daily and pray for each other.
~Fast from TV/screen time (unless it is school or work related) for a period of time each week
~Fast some kind of food or drink. Could be a favorite snack, desserts, sugar, pop, etc. Decide together as a family to fast from something.
~Think about and plan to focus more on prayer during these times (where theres a void)
~Get creative!

Ideas for Teenagers

~Only check your SnapChat once a day (to maintain streaks)...if you want to step it up a notch,  fast from SnapChat for a full day each week or even a week.
~Only be on Instagram or TikTok once a day
~Fast from Fortnite/Overwatch/playing on the Nintendo Switch for a period of time.
~Fast posting on social media for one week (which would encourage you to be present where you are and give you a break from the distraction of “likes")
