Serve

Woodbury Lutheran has a desire to serve the people in our congregation as well as those outside our walls.

Worship Arts TechServe Each Other

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. - Galatians 6:10

Do you love working with children or youth? How about gardening or engaging with people? Maybe you enjoy ushering or singing or greeting and welcoming others. These are just a few of the ways you can be involved at Woodbury Lutheran. We would love to have you join us!

Search for serve opportunities using our Serve Finder tool.

Serving and Reaching the Community

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” - Galatians 5:13-14

We have partnered with several community organizations. Interested in walking alongside someone who has experienced difficulty in life, tutoring students, or working with refugee families?  WLC can help connect you.

Serve and Reach Around the Globe

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8

In Matthew 28:19, God commands us to go and make disciples of all nations. So, we go. We serve. And we reach out to share the love of Christ so that all nations He has made will come and worship before Him, the Lord; they will bring glory to His name. (Psalm 86:9)

Woodbury Lutheran partners with several organizations around the world, from serving orphans to reaching the unreached.

Short-Term Missions

We realize not everyone is able to travel for one reason or another. But you can still partner with us. Serve with your time, resources, and/or prayer.

DISASTER RESPONSE TRAINING

Woodbury Lutheran-Valley Creek Campus is hosting a disaster-response training program for all churches and individuals interested in disaster preparedness and response. All individuals and churches that wish to prepare to provide effective disaster response are welcome to this event.

In the chaos of disaster, it’s important to stay focused on the task at hand. This training will help you focus on the most important thing to remember as you prepare for or respond to a disaster in your community or beyond — MERCY! As Christians, Christ’s mercy is the basis for everything we say and do in disaster response!

This 7-hour training event will also equip you to be an effective volunteer and to prepare yourself for disaster both at home and in distant locations. The training will be facilitated by a certified disaster response trainer for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Disaster Response organization. Participants will receive a certificate of participation, a workbook, volunteer credentials and a safety vest.

Training units include the following:

  1. Christian Care in Times of Disaster
  2. A Ministry of Presence
  3. The Lutheran Emergency Response Team Program (modeled after certification programs designed by FEMA for workers in federally-secured disaster areas)
  4. Introduction to Disaster Response
  5. At the Work Site
    • Debris Clean Up
    • Tarp and Patch
    • Flood and Mud Clean Up
    • Paperwork

We are also offering a short hands-only, hands-on CPR training for all interested participants, provided free by the City of Woodbury, immediately following the LERT training. This fun, easy-to-learn training offers an additional level of safety for those who may desire to join disaster teams.

Morning coffee, lunch and a short afternoon break will be provided to all registrants. We are sorry we cannot accommodate special dietary requirements and ask that you bring your own food if you have dietary needs such as gluten-free or vegetarian.

Later this fall, Woodbury Lutheran will facilitate a seven-day, short-term mission trip to the Corpus Christi area, where work continues to bring help to those ravaged by Hurricane Harvey last summer. Team members do not have to be members of Woodbury Lutheran or the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod to participate. Priority will be given to people who complete this day-long training. This is a great opportunity to join an established team under experienced leaders, and to put your new-found knowledge to work!

Details on our Corpus Christi disaster ministry opportunities will be made available at the training.
