About Us
As a nonprofit outreach of WLC, Woodbury Lutheran Preschool has been loved and respected in our community and the surrounding areas for over 45 years. We believe Christian early education is not just a profession - it is a privilege. We strive to provide an outstanding early learning experience in a welcoming, engaging, child-centered, and family-supportive environment. WLP is a Four Star Parent Aware rated program, excelling in practices that best prepare a child for kindergarten.
Our Mission
Our mission is to share the love and Good News of Jesus Christ, while providing children and families with excellence in early education.
Our Philosophy
We believe young children learn best by doing. They are active learners who touch, feel, experiment, and create. Our classroom environments are intentionally planned with active learners in mind and to encourage their involvement. Here they can experiment to find out how things work, try out many ideas, rearrange happenings to fit their level of understanding and learn firsthand about God's wonderful world around them. Play provides the foundation for academic learning. It is the preparation children need in order to attain academic success. It is in this kind of environment that young children build their self confidence and begin to believe they are capable learners. Play nurtures children's development in all areas and allows us to achieve the goals of our early education curriculum. Play is the work of young children.
Purpose
WLP exists to partner with parents in each child's early education, while instilling faith and Christian values, nurturing self-confidence, encouraging all areas of development and providing the readiness skills needed for future learning success. We are devoted to teaching and reaching the whole child - spirit, heart, mind, and body.
Goals for Learning
One of the most important curriculum goals is to help children become enthusiastic learners. We strive to provide a balance of child-directed play/exploration with appropriate teacher-directed activities to provide a well-rounded experience. Preschool at Woodbury Lutheran instills a strong foundation for future learning success.
Our curriculum identifies goals in all areas of development:
Social: Children develop the ability to interact with peers and adults respectfully, form positive peer relationships, and gain increasing awareness of belonging to a family, community, culture, and program.
Emotional: Children learn to feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, grow in self-esteem, independence, self-control, and develop a positive attitude toward life.
Cognitive: Children become confident learners by acquiring learning skills such as the ability to apply and adapt strategies to solve problems, listen attentively, ask questions, use words to describe thoughts and feelings, and also by engaging in early reading, writing, and math experiences.
Physical: Children develop their large and small muscle skills and develop understanding about healthy and safe living practices.
Spiritual: Bible stories, verses, songs, prayer, and discussion of scriptural truths and values help support children's spiritual development and are an integral part of each child's learning experience.
Class Sizes
Small class sizes are intentionally provided to ensure your child has the individual attention he/she needs and deserves on a daily basis.
